The National Board of Revenue is likely to extend for the third time the deadline for updating the details of all customs clearing and forwarding agents under the Custom House, Chattogram to register them with the Bangladesh Customs-ASYCUDA World System.

According to a notice issued on December 6 by the NBR to the Chattogram Customs Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association, the registration deadline should be extended to December 30 due to a lack of response from the listed agents under the CCC&FAA.

The second deadline ended on December 15.

Only 100 of listed 4,019 customs clearing and forwarding agents have registered themselves to get the authorised user ASYCUDA World Automated System, according to NBR officials.

Regarding the issue, CHC additional commissioner Mohammed Shafi Uddin told New Age that the customs house had maintained pressure on the CCC&FAA to submit all the required information of their listed customs clearing and forwarding agents.

He said, ‘We have lists of more than 4,000 private clearing and forwarding agents but to get the authorised access to the ASYCUDA World Automated System all the agents themselves have to submit their updated information in Excel file format to an official email id [email protected]’

According to the NBR instruction, all applications must be filled in and signed by the managing director or partner or CEO or owner or selected authorised personnel only and the official company stamp and seal must be appended in the designated space.

Applicants will be responsible for any untrue or incorrect information, which may be subject to penal action under Customs Act of 1969 and or any other legislations.

The applications also mention ownership category, business type, taxpayer’s identification number, VAT registration number, agent identification number and others.

NBR customs officials said that to ensure proper use and security of the ASYCUDA World Systems and avoid the offences committed by the abusers, the revenue board had taken such steps.

Maintaining such a database system would help the customs officials monitor to minimise the crisis of abusing the ASYCUDA system, they said.

They also said that such discipline would help track the import data and the financial transactions and also help the officials avoid falsifying damage or impair any record or information stored in the system or to damage or impair any duplicate tape or disc or other medium installed to the system.
