“The Science of Stopping” starts a little slow but picks up speed as it goes along. (If that sentence didn’t make sense to you, you’re not alone.)

First and foremost, SRAM designs the explainer video to help riders decide what brakes they need. If you’re confused or unsure about which hydraulics disc brakes to throw on your bike, the clip is here to help.

Anyone from novice level to riders who have a strong understanding of hydraulic brake mechanics could benefit as SRAM takes it one step at a time.

Skip to 2 minutes in to get to the juicy part — or watch from the beginning to watch amusing clips like a kid crashing a balance bike. No matter what, jovial moments help keep the tone light; stay tuned to watch Yoann Barelli explain heat seals while taking a bath.

And if you like what you see, there’s more to come. “The Science of Stopping” is episode one in SRAM’s new “Open Workings” series, which you can track on YouTube.

Does it show the leaks?

That was great. Look forward to more.

There are so many incorrect statements in this video about the difference between mineral oil and gylcol ether that I don’t know where to start. Have these guys never heard of Viton seals?

Funny, Viton is used by nobody for brakes because it’s not compatible w/ brake fluid.

Lots of skidding. Save the trails right.

SRAM holding forth on the science of hydraulic braking? Irony? Comedy? Mockery?

I had posted a comment along the same lines that was I guess removed for some reason? I said the same thing.. SRAM and Hydraulic brakes…is it april fools?

As a mechanic and rider of the past 15yrs, I must question if this is an april fools joke early? SRAM should not be doing any “explainer” video on hydraulic brakes. They have had 15yrs to get it right and still can’.t Please leave the hydraulic braking explainer videos to shimano.

they should show how/why the brakes lock up and have to be warrantied. from floor bikes that have literally never been ridden

And Shimano could do the same for cracked levers and pistons.

The coasterbrake @ 0:25 isn’t even attached to the frame… SRAM and brakes… great combo!
